Research Project

My PhD thesis explores novel ways of interacting with sound in real-time performative environments. The main focus is to highlight new areas of convergence between the realms of contemporary theatre, performance art, interactive art, installations and sound / music by revisiting, transforming and integrating concepts derived from sound art, sound design and electroacoustic music in order to augment the levels of creativity, expressivity and cognitivity of those art forms.

Tasks Performed

At CINETic I teach Sound Design For Interactive Media at the Interactive Technologies For Performing And Media Arts Master’s degree level, Sound Design For Games at the Art Of Game Design Master’s degree level and Sound For Film And Television at the Multimedia: Sound And Film Editing Bachelor’s degree level. I have also been involved in the SoundThimble research project, conducted by Dr. Grigore Burloiu, project which resulted in two peer-reviewed academic articles published in Proceedings of the 12^th International Audio Mostly Conference on Augmented and Participatory Sound and Music Experiences and Journal of Audio Engineering Society vol. 66, no. 10.

Background

• Academic background

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Film Sound and Montage from UNATC “I.L. Caragiale” – Bucharest, a Master’s degree in Sonic Arts awarded by Queen’s University – Belfast and I am about to finish and defend my PhD thesis, conducted at UNATC “I.L. Caragiale” – Bucharest by spring 2020.

• Professional background

Outside academia I have been working on various music, film and installation projects that have been displayed on radio, television and cinema or that have been selected in national and international festivals including Romanian Design Week, Spotlight,  Electric Castle, Amural and Sonorities.

Among many others I am interested in music production, film sound, installations, interactive art, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, new media, psychology, philosophy, astronomy and geopolitics.

Proiecte de cercetare

Teza mea de doctorat explorează noi metode de a interacționa în timp real cu sunetul, în mediile performative. Scopul principal este acela de a sugera zone noi de convergență din domeniile teatrului contemporan, al artei performative, al artei interactive, al instalațiilor cu sunetul / muzica, prin cercetarea, transformarea si recontextualizarea conceptelor derivate din artă sonoră, sound design și muzică electroacustică, pentru a augmenta gradele de creativitate, expresivitate și cogniție ale acelor forme de artă.

Atribuții de serviciu

În cadrul CINETic predau cursurile Sound Design For Interactive Media în cadrul masteratului Interactive Technologies For Performing And Media Arts, Sound Design For Games în cadrul masteratului Art Of Game Design și Sunet de film și televiziune în cadrul licenței Multimedia: Sunet – Montaj. De asemenea, sunt implicat în proiectul de cercetare SoundThimble, condus de Dr. Grigore Burloiu, proiect ce a rezultat în două articole apărute în două publicații internaționale de tip peer-review: Proceedings of the 12^th International Audio Mostly Conference on Augmented and Participatory Sound and Music Experiences și Journal of Audio Engineering Society vol. 66, no. 10.

Background academic

Sunt absolvent al licenței Multimedia: Sunet – Montaj din cadrul UNATC “I.L. Caragiale” – București, absolvent al masteratului Sonic Arts din cadrul Queen’s University – Belfast și sunt pe cale de a termina și susține teza mea de doctorat, realizată în cadrul UNATC “I.L. Caragiale” – București, până în primăvara anului 2020.

Background profesional

În afara mediului academic am fost implicat în diverse proiecte muzicale, cinematografice și instalații ce au fost prezentate în cadrul radiourilor, al televiziunilor și al cinematografelor, sau care au fost selectate în festivaluri naționale și internaționale cum ar fi: Romanian Design Week, Spotlight, Electric Castle, Amural și Sonorities.

Printre multe altele, interesele mele includ producția muzicală, sunetul de film, instalații, arta interactivă, realitatea virtuală, inteligența artificială, noile media, psihologie, filosofie, astronomie și geopolitică.
