WOODY – The Round Table: Who Speaks for the Forest?
Political Ecologies, Shared Responsibility, and Transdisciplinary Artistic Research
November 6, 2026, 7:00 PM
UNATC–CINETic, Multifunctional Hall
3B Tudor Arghezi Street, Bucharest
Who speaks for the forest? Who decides its future, and which perspectives remain unheard?
Organized in partnership with UNATC, the round table WOODY – Who Speaks for the Forest? brings together art, ecology, and political reflection to explore our relationship with the forest as a living system.
Drawing on the realities of Romania’s forests and the artistic research conducted within the WOODY project, the conversation will explore how local knowledge, academic research, artistic practices, and technology can transform the ways we perceive and relate to the forest.
How does a project take shape at the intersection of multiple disciplines? How are different perspectives, methods, and responsibilities negotiated within a collective creative process? What role can art play in opening up a dialogue about the future of forests?
Participants:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raluca Alexandrescu – University of Bucharest;
- Markus Huber – Director, Goethe-Institut;
- Daniel van Soest – Anthropologist;
- Mirona Radu – PhD Research Assistant, UNATC;
- Claudia van Hasselt – Artistic Director, Frau von Da, Berlin;
- Lecturer Dr. Sabina Ulubeanu – FMT–UVT.
Mirona Radu, a doctoral researcher and research assistant at UNATC, will share her experience working on WOODY, a movie-opera project. Her contribution will offer insights into artistic research and transdisciplinary creation, focusing on the relationships between moving images, soundscape, musical composition, and dialogue—media that intertwine in the final section of the work in a “fugue of media.”
The event will also feature musical interventions by Claudia van Hasselt – mezzo-soprano, Mihai Pintenaru – clarinet, Arthur Balogh – double bass, and Cătălin Crețu – live electronics.
We invite students, faculty members, and researchers interested in artistic research, collective creation, ecology, and the intersections of art, technology, and society to join the conversation.
Audience members are encouraged to contribute their questions and perspectives.
