When the Past is Now: a Workshop in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)
Dr. rer.nat. Danie Meyer
UNATC Bucharest, 27-29 October 2025
UNATC is organising on the dates of 27, 28 & 29 of October a Narrative Exposure Therapy Workshop with Trauma Specialist Dr. Danie Meyer.
When the past is experienced as the present, there is no future. Exposure to violence and chronic stress can disrupt how memories are formed, stored, and accessed. Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is a brief, evidence-based intervention to support healing in trauma survivors. By collecting testimonies using an empirically supported, trauma-focused method, NET uses narratives to advocate for human rights and re-connect communities. Not limited to licensed mental health professionals, anyone in contact with trauma & abuse survivors can benefit from being trained in NET.
This intensive 20 hour training includes pre-recorded and live lectures & demonstrations, as well as in-person, supervised exercises focused on theoretical and practical skill training.
The theoretical section contains the following elements: Introduction to the trauma spectrum, psychobiology of stress and trauma, neurological characteristics of memory networks, and the theoretical construct guiding the practice of NET to address all of the above. The practical portion includes supervised pair practice of the core NET Lifeline, Exposure & Testimony elements.
The workshop is addressed to UNATC students, teachers, researchers or PhD students working at the intersection of theatre and psychology, to psychologists working on trauma and PTSD, and social workers connected to the field. If you want to participate, register via the following form https://forms.gle/HzqhMcruWKX6uwbY6.
There are limited available spots (10) due to the workshop format of supervised pair practice. While lectures and demonstrations occur in the large group, your skills practice with your own and your partner‘s selected events will be supervised privately as a pair. Because of the pair practice element, 100% attendance is required. Upon availability, your participation will be confirmed by email.
This is a 3-day, intensive, in-person training in NET, with a schedule from 10 am to 5 pm daily. Upon full completion of the workshop, personalized certificates under the approval of the American Psychological Association (APA) will be awarded.
